The Bible is not simply a collection of various books, but a single, coherent story moving toward the grand theme of the 'Kingdom of God.' The Old and New Testaments each form a crucial part of that story, and it is important to understand the overarching flow from Genesis to Revelation.
The Bible consists of a total of 66 books, broadly divided into 39 books of the Old Testament and 27 books of the New Testament. We can see that the Old Testament is much more extensive in volume than the New Testament. This shows that the story of God's kingdom had been unfolding for a long time even before the appearance of Jesus.
The Beginning of the World and God's Promise: Genesis
The first book of the Bible, Genesis, begins with the declaration, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." This is a key verse that clearly shows who the Lord of the whole world is and from where all history begins. God not only created the world but also chose His people and made a covenant with them.

The last book of the Bible, Revelation, shows through visions and symbols the events that will take place at the end of the world. While many people think of Revelation only as a frightening story of tribulation and the work of the devil in the last days, the core message is different.
Revelation is a message of hope, declaring that the forces of Satan will ultimately be defeated, and the Kingdom of God will be finally consummated, bringing forth a new heaven and a new earth where God will wipe away every tear. It is a grand finale showing that God's creation, which began in Genesis but was marred by the fall, will ultimately be fully restored and completed through Christ.
Therefore, reading the Bible is more than just learning lessons or historical facts; it is like journeying through the vast forest of God's kingdom, which spans from creation to consummation. When we understand this big picture that runs through the Old and New Testaments, we can more deeply comprehend the meaning of each book of the Bible and discover God's will for our lives.
